Most popular e-Government web pages for Individuals

in Money, Popular Government Websites, Small Business

According to the US government, there are ten areas that are the most popular on line destinations with individuals. We think these eight are relatively good.

We decided to take a look at these web pages and let you know before hand what can be found so you don’t waste days wading through explore everything, even if it is by topic.

1) Citizens Gateway
We think they misnamed the above link. It is more like a black hole that leads to a universe of a thousand or so websites. Save yourself some time and use the search feature. It's much faster and very efficient. It looks like the one below.

Go ahead and try it now at the Citizens Gateway.

2) Federal Government
If you are looking for a civics lesson or what each branch of the US government does than the federal government page is for you. If not than move on.

3) A-Z Index of U.S. Government Departments and Agencies
If you are a citizen or business affected by an agency’s action, inaction, or are just bothered by them, this index is invaluable.
Keep in mind that most, that most member of Congress will intercede for you, but they will do a much better job if you tell them you tried to resolve an issue or problem with the agency or department first.

4) Government Sales and Auctions
Uncle Sam owns a lot of property and they are constantly buying and holding what amounts to a huge yard sale. Problem is where to find out where they are and participate. The above link makes it easier since it lists what agencies are selling things.

Federal Government Surplus and Seized Property Sales
GovSales.gov sells it all — cars, trucks, real estate, houses, buildings, land, computers, furniture, tools ...
State and Local Surplus Property Sales
Find state and local government surplus auctions.
Government Stores — Souvenirs, Books, Gifts
Stamps, art, maps, tapes, books, park passes, memorabilia, unusual items from government
Sales, by Federal Agency
Find a particular federal government agency's auction, sale or gift shop ...

5) Jobs, Education, and Volunteerism
If you are out of work, looking for your first job or just need training, this is a good place to find resources. Federal jobs are also listed here. See the many reasons why you may want to work for the Federal Government.

6) Government Benefits, Grants and Financial Assistance
Who isn’t looking for some form of government assistance these days. This is a topical table of contents that will get you to the right place.

7) State Government
Every state and Governor has a website. These are good places to go if you are planning on moving to another state and want to get an idea of what you’ll find there in terms of its economy, schools, and jobs.

8) Work for the Government
Personally we don’t think much of this page. Cut to the chase and go directly where the job vacancies are at USAJOBS.Gov and you’ll find out about salaries, job benefits and how to apply. See our page on how to find a summer internship if that is what you are into (for next year at least).
