Visiting the United States- How to get a U.S. Visa
Vacationing in the US is relatively easy especially for citizens of certain countries. If you want to stay longer than 90 days be prepared for a longer wait to get your US visa.
United States Visas for Non-Immigrants or Visitors
Are you planning on visiting the United States on vacation or business for less than 90 days? You may not need a US Visa if you are a citizen of one of the 27 countries listed below. This is part of the Visa Waiver Program.
All other people who are planning on working, doing business for more than 3 months and attending school in the United States have to apply for different kinds of U.S. visas.
Countries that are part of US Visa Waiver Program
- Andora, Austrailia, Austria,
- Belgium, Brunei, Denmark,
- Finland, France, Germany,
- Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan,
- Liechenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco,
- Netherlands, New Zealand,
- Norway, Portugal, San Marino,
- Singapore, Slovenia, Spain,
- Sweden, Switzerland, and United Kingdom.
Citizens visiting the United States from the 27 countries above must have valid passports that are machine-readable or scannable. For a summary of the program to see if you qualify, download the Visa Waiver Program Brochure. [PDF]
If you are planning a visit greater than 90 days or don't have a machine-readable passport or one with a digital picture, you must apply for a United States Visa.
There are exceptions or special conditions to the requirement that passports be machine readable for Italian, French and German passport holders. If you meet these special conditions for French, German or Italian passports, you don't have to apply for a US visa. However, if you don't meet the special conditions, you will have to apply.
What if I am not sure if I need a United States Visa?
When in doubt about whether or not you will need to apply for a United States Visa, it is always wise to check with the US embassy in your country. The US embassy will have a good idea of the latest requirements and also tell you how long it will take.

What will happen once I apply for my US Visa?
Security is higher these days because of homeland security concerns so getting your US visa may take longer. Also when you arrive in the United States, airport officials may scrutinize your papers more than you are accustomed to. A good way to get an idea of what will happen to you once you apply and arrive in the United States, is to listen to or watch a video of the US Visa Process. Just select video or audio.

Yes, there is a US Embassy in Cambodia
I don't think you will need a visa to visit the US if you are a French Citizen and will stay less than 90 days. See http://cambodia.usembassy.gov/note_for_visa_waiver.html.
To be safe, I would check with the US embasy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Here is the contact information at http://cambodia.usembassy.gov/contact.html. Be sure that your French passport is in order and not about to expire.
